Meeting Street playhouse auction benefits Make-A-Wish
Joe Gibbs delivers keynote address, winning bid for granddaughter’s surprise gift.
A playhouse constructed by Meeting Street Homes was auctioned during the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s recent 25th Anniversary Gala held at the Ritz-Carlton downtown Charlotte. This wasn’t just any playhouse, but rather one that features 2-by-4 framing, Advantec subfloor, cement siding, architectural scalloped shingles, Plexiglas windows for safety and a custom-made front door. Interior features include bead board paneling and a vinyl floor. There are even flower boxes for colorful spring planting.
And the winning bidder in the auction wasn’t any ordinary bidder, either. The playhouse went to Joe and Pat Gibbs, whose $7,000 bid topped all others at the event — that is, the second time the playhouse was auctioned. The playhouse was originally auctioned for $7,000, but the winning bidder donated it back to Make-A-Wish so it could be auctioned again. The second time around, the Gibbs’ bid of $7,000 brought the total to $14,000, enough to pay for almost three wishes granted to critically or terminally ill children. The average wish costs about $5,000 to fulfill.
In addition to winning the playhouse Gibbs delivered the keynote address at the gala. The builder was set to make the surprise delivery of the house to the Gibbs’ granddaughter earlier this week.
Meeting Street Homes is building luxury townhomes in five developments in the Lake Norman region: Eastfield Village in Huntersville, Antiquity in Cornelius, Summers Walk in Davidson, and Morrison Plantation and The Reserve in Mooresville.
